TPU 88A IMPACT TIP · AR PLATFORM · MIL-SPEC & COMMERCIAL · DESIGNED & MANUFACTURED IN THE USA
Recoil,
Softened.
Cloud Buffer replaces the hard nylon tip at the back of your buffer — the one that cracks against the tube end on every hard cycle — with one long, progressive cushion. Same buffer weight. Same spring. A completely different impulse.

WHAT "SOFTENED" MEANS
THE IMPULSE CURVE
When a standard buffer completes its rearward stroke, its factory nylon tip cracks against the tube end — a short, sharp spike that transmits straight through the tube into your shoulder. Cloud Buffer's progressive TPU 88A tip is built to spread that same energy across a longer, rounder curve: less peak force, same total energy, gone before you notice it arrived. That same sharp strike is also what rings the tube — a fast, hard nylon-on-metal impact excites the tube's resonant frequency, which is where the metallic crack or ping comes from. Stretching the impact out with a soft TPU 88A cushion keeps it below that threshold, so the cycle sounds duller and quieter along with feeling softer.
Illustrative curve — shown to explain the mechanism, not measured lab data.
HOW IT BREATHES
A rebounding cavity,
Not a dead stop
Cloud Buffer is a single small part: the tip mounted to the rear of your buffer body, the piece that meets the tube end when the buffer completes its rearward stroke. Most factory tips are solid, rigid nylon — a wall. Cloud Buffer is a TPU 88A tip engineered to give, progressively.
Wide impact cap
A broad, flat-faced cap meets the tube end squarely on every hard cycle, spreading contact force across more surface instead of concentrating it on a small point.
Progressive internal cavity
Below the cap, a shaped internal cavity lets a rebounding half-sphere compress into open volume — so a light cycle gets a gentle cushion and a hard one gets more resistance the deeper it compresses, instead of one fixed spring rate.
TPU 88A, MJF printed
Printed on industrial HP Multi Jet Fusion equipment in Ultrasint TPU 88A — an engineering-grade elastomer built for fatigue resistance and energy return, not a hobby-printer filament.
Pinned, drop-in base
The base seats in your factory buffer body and locks in place through the same retention pin bore your factory tip already uses. No new buffer, no new spring.
WHERE IT SITS
One small part, in context
Cloud Buffer only replaces the tip — the piece mounted to the rear of your buffer body that meets the tube end when the buffer completes its rearward stroke. Everything else in the assembly stays exactly as it is.
ABOUT THE MATERIAL
An industrial TPU, printed the way midsoles are
Cloud Buffer isn't cast or injection-molded. It's built layer by layer on industrial HP Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) equipment, in Ultrasint TPU 88A — a thermoplastic polyurethane engineered for repeated impact, energy return, and fatigue resistance. It's the same material grade used in shoe midsoles, sports protection padding, and automotive interior parts. Parts print in a natural white/grey powder color and are dyed black as a finishing step.
Why MJF
Multi Jet Fusion is an industrial production process, not a desktop printer. HP's equipment fuses polymer powder layer by layer under heat, producing dense, isotropic parts without the weak points along layer lines that FDM-printed plastic has. It's the same class of process print shops use for end-use footwear, orthopedic devices, and automotive parts — not one-off prototypes.
Material properties per BASF Forward AM's published Ultrasint TPU 88A datasheet.

Specifications
BEFORE YOU ORDER
Built to fit what you already run
Buffer body
Fits the standard tip bore used by mil-spec and commercial carbine and rifle buffer bodies — the same pocket your factory tip sits in.
Caliber
Tuned and validated on 5.56 NATO / .223 Rem platforms. A .308 AR-10 sized tip is in development — coming soon.
Spring
A tip swap doesn't touch your action spring — keep whatever carbine or rifle-length spring you're already running.
Install
Drive out the factory tip's retention pin, swap in Cloud Buffer, drive the pin back through. About two minutes, no gunsmithing.
Same spring. Same weight.
Softer rifle.
Cloud Buffer ships direct, drop-in ready, with free shipping and a lifetime warranty to the original owner.
